Hi, Lykkers! Bohey Dulang Island is one of the most distinctive natural attractions in Semporna, Sabah, Malaysia.

Located within Tun Sakaran Marine Park, the island is known for its volcanic landscape, beautiful lagoon, and elevated viewpoint overlooking the surrounding islands.

Its combination of forest trails and clear coastal waters makes it a memorable destination for visitors who enjoy nature and outdoor experiences.

A Volcanic Island

Bohey Dulang was formed from the remains of ancient volcanic activity. One of its most striking features is a lagoon created when seawater filled part of an old volcanic crater. This natural formation gives the island its recognizable landscape, with green slopes surrounding the blue waters.

Covering approximately 313 hectares, Bohey Dulang is the second-largest island in the Tun Sakaran Marine Park group. Its scenery includes forested hills, rocky coastal areas, and surrounding coral reef habitats.

The Famous Viewpoint

One of the main reasons visitors travel to Bohey Dulang is the panoramic view from its highest peak. Standing at approximately 353 metres above sea level, the summit overlooks the lagoon and the neighbouring islands of the marine park.

Reaching the viewpoint requires a hike along a forest trail. Sabah Parks describes the climb as a journey of about one hour, passing through a natural environment with volcanic rock formations and vegetation.

The route includes sections with stairs, and the uphill walk can be challenging for visitors who are not accustomed to hiking.

The view from the top offers a broad perspective of the island group, making the climb a highlight of many trips to Bohey Dulang.

The surrounding waters form part of a marine environment with coral reefs and varied marine life. These habitats make the wider Tun Sakaran Marine Park an appealing destination for visitors interested in nature and marine conservation.

Exploring Tun Sakaran Marine Park

Bohey Dulang is part of an island group that includes Bodgaya, Tetagan, Selakan, Sebangkat, Maiga, Sibuan, and Mantabuan. Many visitors explore the area through boat trips from Semporna, often combining the Bohey Dulang hike with stops at other islands.

The marine park is also known for activities such as snorkelling and scuba diving at designated sites. Visitors who prefer to stay on land can enjoy the scenery and learn more about the park’s conservation work.

The Tun Sakaran Marine Research Unit on Bohey Dulang is also associated with giant clam breeding and seaweed farming.
