Lykkers, Setting spray is honestly the step I didn’t fully appreciate at first. I used to think it was just a “nice finishing touch,” something optional at the end of makeup. But living with oily skin changed that completely. Now, it’s the step I rely on most, because it decides whether my face still looks the same after a few hours—or whether everything slowly melts away.

I’ve had that moment too often: leaving the house looking fresh, only to check a mirror later and realize my T-zone has rewritten the whole story. Right now, two setting sprays stay in my rotation: ONE/SIZE On ‘Til Dawn Setting Spray and Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. They both lock makeup in place, but they don’t behave the same on my skin.

1. Urban Decay All Nighter — The Reliable “Stay-On-No-Matter-What” Finish

Urban Decay All Nighter feels less intense but more universal in how it works for me. It doesn’t necessarily change how my skin behaves, but it does a solid job at keeping everything in place. I notice it most on long days when I’m out for hours and don’t have time to check my makeup.

Even when my T-zone gets oily, my foundation doesn’t completely break apart. It fades more evenly instead of disappearing in patches, which makes a big difference in how my makeup still looks in photos or mirrors later in the day. This is the spray I use when I want balance—something that holds my makeup without pushing it too matte or too dry.

2. ONE/SIZE On ‘Til Dawn — My “Nothing Is Moving Today” Spray

I reach for ONE/SIZE when I already know my skin is going to be oily from the start. This is the one I trust on long days, warm weather, or anytime I need my makeup to stay locked in place without negotiating with my skin. The first time I used it, I actually noticed how different my makeup felt throughout the day. Instead of slowly breaking down around my nose and forehead, everything stayed more controlled. My skin still got oily eventually, but the makeup didn’t separate or slide the way it used to.

When I pair it with a mattifying base, the effect is even stronger—it feels like my makeup has a bit more structure holding it together. This is the spray I use when I want my face to still look like my face at the end of the day, just a slightly more lived-in version.

What I’ve learned is that these two don’t compete—they solve slightly different problems for me. ONE/SIZE On ‘Til Dawn feels more like control. It helps me stay matte for longer and keeps oil from taking over too quickly. Urban Decay All Nighter feels more like protection. It keeps makeup intact even when my skin does get oily. One focuses on reducing the shine at the source, the other focuses on preserving the look no matter what happens underneath.
