Hey, Lykkers fans! If you’re seeking a sun-soaked escape with stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landscapes, look no further than Fuerteventura.

Join us as we recount our unforgettable adventures on this Canary Island, filled with relaxation and exploration!

Unforgettable Attractions Await

Our journey began with a visit to the Dunas de Corralejo Natural Park, one of Fuerteventura’s most iconic attractions. As we stepped into the park, we were greeted by rolling sand dunes that stretched as far as the eye could see, creating a mesmerizing landscape reminiscent of the Sahara. We spent the day hiking through the dunes, taking in the panoramic views of the ocean and the neighboring island of Lanzarote. The park is open year-round, and entrance is free, making it a must-visit for nature lovers.

Another highlight was our trip to El Cotillo, a charming fishing village known for its picturesque beaches. We explored the stunning lagoons and sandy shores, where the turquoise waters called to us for a refreshing dip. The area is perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and even snorkeling. As we lounged on the beach, we enjoyed watching surfers tackle the waves—an inspiring sight! The best time to visit El Cotillo is during the warmer months, and it's accessible for free, which made our day even more enjoyable.

For a bit of adventure, we decided to take a surfing lesson at one of the local schools in Corralejo. The instructors were incredibly friendly and helped us catch our first waves, creating unforgettable memories. The lesson lasted about two hours and cost around €40, including all the necessary equipment.

Practical Tips for Your Visit

Getting around Fuerteventura is quite simple, especially if you rent a car, which we found to be the best way to explore the island’s hidden gems. Car rentals start at about €25 per day, giving us the freedom to travel at our own pace. The island is relatively small, so driving from one end to the other is quite manageable.

We recommend visiting during the spring or fall when the weather is warm but not overly hot, making it perfect for beach activities and exploration. Don’t forget to pack plenty of sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the sun!

Where to Stay

For our accommodation, we chose the Hotel Riu Oliva Beach, located near Corralejo and just a stone’s throw from the beautiful beaches. This all-inclusive hotel offers stunning ocean views, several pools, and a fantastic buffet. Prices start at around €150 per night, which we found to be a great deal for the amenities and location. We particularly enjoyed the variety of food options and the relaxing atmosphere, making it a perfect base for our adventures.

Delicious Local Cuisine

During our trip, we made sure to indulge in the local cuisine. One of our favorite meals was papas arrugadas, or wrinkled potatoes, served with mojo sauce, a traditional Canarian dip. We enjoyed this delicious dish at a local restaurant for about €10, and it quickly became a highlight of our culinary experience.

We also tried gofio, a type of flour made from roasted grains, served with various dishes. It’s a unique local staple that we enjoyed with a fresh salad, which was priced around €8.

Final Thoughts

Our time in Fuerteventura was a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and culinary delights. From the stunning landscapes of the dunes to the warm waters of El Cotillo, this island truly has something for everyone.
