When we set out to explore Sunwapta Falls, nestled in the heart of Jasper National Park, we were greeted by nature’s grandeur at its finest.
This captivating destination is a testament to the beauty of Alberta’s wilderness, and our visit proved to be an unforgettable adventure.

The Two Falls: Upper and Lower

Sunwapta Falls is divided into two parts: the upper and lower falls. The Upper Sunwapta Falls, a powerful cascade plunging 18 meters into a rocky gorge, is the more accessible of the two. The Lower Falls, though slightly less dramatic in its drop, captivates with its serene beauty and inviting surroundings.
We found that the view from the observation platform at the Upper Falls was particularly breathtaking, offering a stunning panorama of the surrounding valley.

Scenic Drive and Accessibility

Our journey to Sunwapta Falls began with a drive along the Icefields Parkway, a scenic route renowned for its awe-inspiring vistas. The falls are conveniently located just a short drive from the Athabasca Glacier and are easily accessible year-round.
During our visit, we were pleased to find that the park's main attractions are open from dawn to dusk, allowing us ample time to immerse ourselves in the natural splendor. The best time to visit is in the summer and early fall when the weather is pleasant and the waterfall's flow is at its peak.
